Acquisition using the Planet eStream Encoding Station
Record
- Probably the most commonly used feature of Planet eStream is the
real-time capture of video and audio. This is typically from a
variety of sources such as DVD or VHS players, camcorders, live TV and freeview
/ satellite decoders.
Recording is performed using the Planet eStream Application running on the Planet eStream Encoder Station. This controls the capture process, logging information into the database, trimming surplus content and subdividing clips into chapters. The application also provides the facility to synchronise Microsoft PowerPoint presentations with video playback.
Recordings can be scheduled and
broadcasted either live or at a later date, as required. Captured content is
archived to the Planet eStream Server along with its
associated annotation - making content easy to retrieve via the Planet
eStream Website. Existing Video and Audio files can also be
converted, annotated, and added to the Planet eStream Server.
Planet eStream Clients
The
fully searchable Planet eStream
database allows easy retrieval of archived content on a VOD (Video on Demand) basis
via the Planet eStream Website. Content can be viewed as desired and can be
displayed via an embedded window in a web page or in Windows Media Player (or equivalent). This
content can be expanded to full screen.
Alternatively, links to content may be advertised via web pages or email.
Content is made available over a local intranet and/or the internet, making Planet eStream a valuable resource for IPTV, webcasting, video over IP, distance learning and VLE applications . Clients may access content using a desktop computer, a laptop, a PDA, a Set Top Box or an Apple Macintosh. The system is fully wireless LAN compatible.
At the time that the source material is captured using the Planet eStream Application it is automatically encoded in a Multi bit rate format thus optimising the quality of the video to the bandwidth available to the viewing client.
Advanced features
Microsoft® PowerPoint slides can
be synchronised with video playback.
Unassociated files such as images, audio files or even text documents can be linked to archived content. Teachers and Trainers can therefore create lesson plans that include related files.
Authorised users can create playlists of recorded content. These may be configured for video on demand or scheduled broadcasts.
Planet eStream also features customisable user based permissions, controlling access to the resources. System configuration is implemented via a web interface.
